Brescia is also called the city of "tondino", because this province has always been characterized by a strong industrial tradition, but actually it offers more... And if you stay at Albergo Orologio you will be surrounded by all the wonders of this city.
Nearby the hotel you'll find:
PIAZZA DELLA LOGGIA (1 minute by foot)
Piazza della Loggia is notorious for the bombing that took place on the morning of 28 May 1974 during an anti-fascist protest. It is one of the most important squares of Brescia and the main building is Palazzo della Loggia, a palace of the Renaissance where today the municipality is based. On the other side of the square you can see "i macc de le ure", literally called "i matti delle ore", two bronze statues which tell the hour by beating with their hammer the bells on the top of the Tower of Orologio.
PIAZZA PAOLO VI (1 minutes by foot)
In Piazza Paolo VI, situated on the doorstep of Albergo Orologio, you can find the Duomo Vecchio and the Duomo Nuovo and that's the reason why this square is also called "Piazza Duomo". Between the hotel and the square stands the Palazzo Broletto, which was the medieval seat of the reining Signorie and today it is a meeting-place of the provincial administration. The square is an ideal place for an appetizer, in front of the majestic dome of the Duomo Vecchio, which boasts the third place in Italy for its dimensions.
MUSEO DI SANTA GIULIA (5 minutes by foot)
The complex of Santa Giulia was a Benedictine monastery of women that today shows exhibitions of several historical periods (for example, ancient, Celtic, Roman, Longobard...). The complex includes the basilica of San Salvatore and its crypt, the roman oratorio of Santa Maria in Solario, the coro delle monache, the sixteenth-century church of Santa Giulia and its cloisters. Thanks to these important longobard monuments, the monastic complex of Santa Giulia boasts the inscription on the UNESCO's World Heritage List.
CASTELLO (5 minutes by foot)
The large stony outline of the castle marks the panorama of the city and this medieval fortress is very close to the city center of Brescia.
